Tachiai's Day 13 preview
Tournament leaders
- Makuuchi: Takanosho is still outright leader in makuuchi on 10-2, and is Hakuho's pick to take the yusho. Go doggy! He has three rikishi hot on his tail at 9-3 - Terunofuji (who he already defeated), Ura and Sadanoumi.
- Juryo: Tokushoryu and Tsurugisho are still even on 9-3, with Daiamami, Nishikifuji, Atamifuji and Ryuden on 8-4
Division leaders and chasers are both highlighted for lower divisions.
In lower divisions, the lead scores are currently 6-0. Here are the yusho-deciding matches today for makushita, sandanme and jonokuchi.
- Makushita: Oshoma v Kitaharima - decided today!
- Sandanme: Kamitani v Hatsuyama - decided today!
- Jonidan: Kototebakari v Daiseizan and Hanafusa v Toseiryu - this is going to a playoff
- Jonokuchi: Kazekeno (6-0) v Yamato (5-1) - if Kazekeno wins his match today, yusho! Otherwise, it's a Day 15 playoff between those two and everyone else in jonokuchi who can make it to 6-1 in time. Tanji, Michihaya, Arise are also on 5-1... five way playoff, anyone?
Division decider matches are highlighted for lower divisions.
Who's that shimpan (ringside judge)?
Thanks to the maintainer of this page for providing these images! Click the name of the shimpan to see what they look like. (You may need to middle-click it to open the link in a new window.)
Today, the third shimpan in the list is on the mic for the pre-sekitori shifts. That said, the Tatekawa group hasn't being following their listed order since Hatachiyama began subbing for Futagoyama so the first we'll know for sure is when they sit down.
Shimpan groups
Each group below has at least one shift every day. The starter group gets the rest of the day off, while the other groups do two shifts each: the first one has everyone listed below, and the second with one of their number substituted for one of the senior group. (There's a whole rota system.)
- Onaruto group: Onaruto (ozeki Dejima), Urakaze (maegashira 1 Shikishima), Asahiyama (sekiwake Kotonishiki), Tanigawa (sekiwake Hokutoriki), Naruto (ozeki Kotooshu)
- Kataonami group: Kataonami (sekiwake Tamakasuga), Tamagaki (komusubi Tomonohana), Azumazeki (komusubi Takamisakari), Tokitsukaze (maegashira 1 Tosayutaka), Ikazuchi (komusubi Kakizoe)
- Asakayama group: Asakayama (ozeki Kaio), Takenawa (sekiwake Tochinonada), Edagawa (maegashira 1 Aogiyama), Sendagawa (komusubi Toki) Nishonoseki (yokozuna Kisenosato)
- Tatekawa group: Tatekawa (sekiwake Tosanoumi), Hanaregoma (sekiwake Tamanoshima), Hatachiyama (komusubi Tochinohana), Oshima (sekiwake Kyokutenho), Takasago (ozeki Asasekiryu)
Members of this senior group also appear once a day. They substitute for a member of other shimpan groups to act as head shimpan for their repeat shifts.
Note: From Day 13, Fujishima is taking over for Sadogatake who's out with a torn calf muscle.
Single appearances
One ringside shift today for the whole Onaruto group, Ikazuchi, Nishonoseki and Takasago.
Yobidashi info
As always, predicted appearances for yobidashi are in italics.
There's 121 matches on day 13. That's 40 less than days 1-12. As an odd numbered day, yobidashi call east first.
From Day 13 on, schedulers will even omit certain yobidashi from the day's schedule entirely. Since this is complete and utter anarchy compared to full length days, yobidashi guessing games are over for another basho.
That said, I've had a crack at where the easier-to-predict yobidashi might show up. If Hiromasa's first match is Kiryu v Asakoga, all the yobi predictions afterwards should be solid.
Yobidashi images and bios
The official program only lists yobidashi from Soichi onwards. Here's links to screencaps of each yobi, including onscreen bios in Japanese: new starter Jin, Takeru, Shintaro, Yuma, Kenta, Hiroshi, Yuji, Hiromasa, Tsurutaro, Shigejiro, Shin, Naoki, Setsuo, Yuto, Kohei, Shunsuke, Mamoru, Teruya.
