(Looking for a different day? Try the master list!)

Compiled from: NSK's postings for makuuchi, juryo, makushita, sandanme, jonidan and jonokuchi; NSK's absence list, NSK's tournament leaders list and NSK's Day 7 program in Japanese.

SumoDB for today including H2H.

General knowledge: Full list of winning techniques like oshidashi, yorikiri, etc; Pre-bout rituals explained; What do the gyoji say?

Tournament leaders

In lower divisions, Day 7 will see our first kachi-koshi matches in jonidan, sandanme and makushita, with many 3 win rikishi pitted against one another to thin out the NSK's tournament leaders list. Here's the full list of kachikoshi hopefuls today.

Who's that shimpan (ringside judge)?

Thanks to the maintainer of this page for providing these images! Click the name of the shimpan to see what they look like. (You may need to middle-click it to open the link in a new window.)

Shimpan groups

Each group below has at least one shift every day. The starter group gets the rest of the day off, while the other groups do two shifts each: the first one has everyone listed below, and the second with one of their number substituted for one of the senior group. (There's a whole rota system.)

Members of this senior group also appear once a day. They substitute for a member of other shimpan groups to act as head shimpan for their repeat shifts.

Single shift shimpan

For Day 7, shimpan appearing ringside just the once are the senior group, the entire Asakayama group, Tatekawa, Naruto and Ikazuchi.

Yobidashi info

Matches prior to Soichi's have no yobidashi listed on the Japanese program. Lower division yobidashi have their fans too, so each day I try to predict when the more junior yobidashi will appear.

Predicted appearances for yobidashi are in italics so you can tell them apart from where I've translated something from the official program.

Today we have four less matches than previous days: 164.

Prior to Day 13 where the schedule starts playing funnybuggers, 32 matches usually go to the 8 makushita yobidashi Shin, Naoki, Setsuo, Yuto, Kohei, Shunsuke, Mamoru and Teruya (four matches each), and 15 matches go to the three sandanme yobidashi Hiromasa, Tsurutaro & Shigejiro (5 matches each), leaving 61 matches for the seven jonidan/jonokuchi yobis to cover at the start of the day.

Newbie Jin is getting more matches over the course of the basho! Jin will probably keep getting 5 matches; Takeru, Shintaro and Yuma will probably keep doing 12 matches each. I'm guessing Kenta will get 9 matches, Hiroshi will get 7 matches & Yuji will get 6 matches. Something like that.

Edit: Close but not quite! I left out the gyoji and yobidashi after Soichi today by accident.

Yobidashi images and bios

The official program only lists yobidashi from Soichi onwards. Here's links to screencaps of each yobi, including onscreen bios in Japanese: new starter Jin, Takeru, Shintaro, Yuma, Kenta, Hiroshi, Yuji, Hiromasa, Tsurutaro, Shigejiro, Shin, Naoki, Setsuo, Yuto, Kohei, Shunsuke, Mamoru, Teruya.
