Tournament leaders

Makushita #34 Kinbozan (7-0) and Sandanme #100 Kanzaki (7-0) are Osaka 2022's championship winners in their divisions!

For convenience, I've bolded any matches which involve current division leaders below.

Makuuchi commentators: Uncle Waka (former yokozuna Wakanohana) and Kiyono Shigeki

Who's that shimpan (ringside judge)?

Thanks to the maintainer of this page for providing these images! Click the name of the shimpan to see what they look like. (You may need to middle-click it to open the link in a new window.)

Shimpan groups

Shimpan shifts

Our blankie boys have seven shifts to cover every day, and each shimpan group that's not scheduled to open the day's matches has to come back for a second shift later on. One shimpan in any returning shift gets replaced with a member of the "afternoon group". The member of the afternoon group is usually in head shimpan (shomei) position, facing away from us. The seating order doesn't always match the program order though.

When's my favourite yobidashi (usher/singer) up?

On day 14, there are 118 matches in total. Short days have a compressed schedule which I haven't sat down and analysed before.

Yobidashi from Soichi onwards (juryo and makuuchi yobidashi) are included on the program, so we know when they'll show up. Juryo yobidashi Soichi shows up for bout 67: Makushita #59 Hokutoryu (3-3) vs Sandanme #2 Rao (3-3).

Yobidashi ranked from jonokuchi to makushita don't appear on the schedule, and going off day 13 some yobidashi get a day off. Since this is complete and utter anarchy compared to full length days, I'm not going to guess when the yobis show up. Some things are not meant to be known.

Yobidashi images and bios

This is the normal order the yobis prior to Soichi appear in. Since we're on short days and some of them don't appear, here's links to screencaps of each yobi introducing a match, including their onscreen bios: Takeru, Shintaro, Yuma, Kenta, Hiroshi, Yuji, Hiromasa, Tsurutaro, Shigejiro, Shin, Naoki, Setsuo, Yuto, Kohei, Shunsuke, Mamoru, Teruya. (Yuji, Tsurutaro and Teruya didn't appear yesterday at all.)
