Tournament leaders

For convenience, I've bolded any matches which involve current division leaders below. None of the lower division leaders have matches on Day 12.

Who's that shimpan?

Shimpan groups

Shimpan shifts

Our blankie boys have seven shifts to cover every day, and each shimpan group that's not scheduled to open the day's matches has to come back for a second shift later on. One shimpan in any returning shift gets replaced with a member of the "afternoon group". The member of the afternoon group is usually in head shimpan (shomei) position, facing away from us. The seating order doesn't always match the program order though.

A note on yobidashi and scheduling

On day 12, there are 159 matches in total.

Yobidashi from Soichi onwards (juryo and makuuchi yobidashi) are included on the program, so we know when they'll show up. Makushita yobidashi seem to consistently get four bouts each and sandanme yobidashi seem to consistently get five bouts each. Figuring out when those guys appear is just a matter of counting.

However, jonokuchi and jonidan yobidashi schedules vary from day to day. On Day 12, the jonokuchi and jonidan yobidashi have 59 matches to cover between them. I'm guessing they'll give 12 matches each to Takeru, Shintaro and Yuma, leaving 9 for Kenta, and 7 each for Hiroshi and Yuji. Apologies if I've guessed wrong, Shintaro fans!

Update: Shintaro had 11 today, so I've adjusted Yuma to 11 and Kenta to 11. This may still be off. Guesses are guesses. :)
