lyrics

It was a weas (BD, 00:00)

It was trying out the shapes of various creatures just for fun
Because it can
Thinking it might like to be a wolf or bear or some other big ponderous thing
When suddenly

It became a weasel
No that wasn't what it planned
It happened so quicky
That at first it couldn't understand
And then it started to think
"Well this is not bad.."
You know it really isn't bad

Since then it's been happy living next to a swamp on fallen leaves
It was a weas
It was a weasel
It was a weasel
It was a weasel
And it probably still is a weasel today.

Horses have standards (JM, 11:00)

Hello.
I am a horse.

Horses are a calming influence.
Horses are trustworthy.
Horses are aesthetically pleasing.

It's nice being a horse.

Horses come in many colours and patterns,
But never black and white stripes.

Being a horse isn't all trotting and sugarcubes:
We have an image to maintain.

The Horse Qualification Society is responsible for horse standards.
We are tested every three months.
All horses are tested for inner calmness, loyalty and firmness of buttock.
Results are seasonally adjusted.

If you fail once, you are given a warning.
After all, we all make mistakes.
If you fail twice, you are given a paint job and reassigned to "zebra".

Zebras don't have standards.

Chicken man (Kurrel the Raven, 16:00)

oh i am a man, and i am a chicken
so some people call me the chicken man..
oh i am a man, and i am a chicken
so some people call me the chicken man..
i got a butt full of feathers and wings instead of hands
but i can rock the party like no other chicken can

(clucking solo)

Toybox theory (Rabbit Rabbit, 20:00)

Hmmm... if I don't, there may be unforeseen consequences... but if I do, it will implode into... toys.

What am I (Electric Keet, 21:00)

What am I?
What am I?

I am the most important thing on this planet:
I am a person.
I am the most dangerous thing in the world:
I am an idea.

I am every gender you ever were or never knew about.
I am every species you ever wanted to be or never discovered.
I am the burning passionate orange sun
Sinking into the ocean and rising again
I am the white snow on the horizon,
Soothing and unblinking and defiant
I am the timeless mountain,
Strong and tall and over your head and under your feet.
I am the air you breathe, the wonder around you,
The smell of spring's life and autumn's death.

I am a musician, an artist, a writer, a lover, an oracle.
I am a body, I am an intellect, I am a spirit

I am chaos, I am creation, I am catalyst.

What am I?
I am a question and an answer.

I am all of us,
and I
am you.

Trashcan of love (BD, 27:00)

A hungry badger
Snuck into somebody's kitchen
They caught him and threw him out in the trash bin
Where he met
The raccoon of his dreams

They strolled down to the dump together
And they got into the back of an abandoned car
And now the rest of the story I leave up to you

[spoken]
I leave this story up to you
I don't know what happened
(I was rockin'!)
Oh what a pair!

Yes the rest of the story i leave up to you

Fortnight (Kiffa Kitmouse, 29:00)

I said goodbye to my baby today.
It's two weeks that she'll be away.
I can't eat and I don't wanna sleep.
Had no idea i was in it so deep.

I could try to distract myself with a game,
But playing with myself just isn't the same.
I don't know why i'm missing you so.
I've got one down and thirteen to go.

One down and thirteen to go.
One down and thirteen to go.
One down and thirteen to go.
One down and thirteen to go.

Swinging the chain (Soul Camel, 38:00)

I am two people. The dragon is at peace. The human envies him. Thousands surround me, we've countless methods and reasons for doing the same thing even though we disagree on what that is, and between us we feed damn near everything through it. The human talks to some, wants to talk to many and fears most including some of his friends. He says he doesn't know how to fit in. The dragon says "fitting in" isn't the point, that there isn't anything to fit into as such. He talks to who he wants to and never doubts himself. The human envies him even more.

liner notes

There's a stereotype among furries — not an undeserved one — that furry music is either trance, or remixes of either videogame or anime soundtracks. Besides which, music has not historically been a common avenue for furries to express themselves compared with the furry "pillars" of comics, prose, poetry, illustration, costuming ("fursuits") and animation.

As a musician as well as a furry, I found this a bit disappointing. It's not to say that furries were hostile towards music — the Furry Music Foundation was an early attempt at a furry music site in the late 1990s before it became inactive, furry conventions had musical acts such as Uffington Horse, and the science-fiction fandom's practice of filking (replacing the lyrics of songs while leaving the melody intact) was enthusiastically carried on by furries for years after the fandom splintered away in the 1980s. But if you didn't like what was on the FMF, couldn't make it to conventions or disliked filking (like me), there wasn't much to listen to.

It wasn't until FurAffinity decided that people should be able to post music alongside the usual stories and pictures that things seemed to really crystallise. Suddenly, we had somewhere that not only allowed us to arrange our music in a gallery seamlessly alongside other more established forms of furry art, but we could all see one another much more easily than before.

Cheerful and whimsical

The story goes well beyond what's on offer here, too — in addition to too many aspiring furry DJs to even try to mention, there's the many artists on furry-populated electronic music label Vulpvibe, the self-styled "yiff-hop" of Bucktown Tiger, and convention regulars Sublevel 3. Though none of them appear on this compilation, they are very much out there and hard at work providing soundtracks for the lives of furries at conventions, on the Internet or wherever they might be.

cheers,
Kurrel the Raven
